How Pantry Shuffle works, answers to common questions, and how to reach us.

How it works

Pantry Shuffle picks a random recipe that fits what you have and what you avoid. Add ingredients to your pantry, add any allergies and dislikes, then tap Roll. Not feeling it? Roll again — recipes you've just seen won't come straight back.

In the roll filters, choose how closely to match your pantry:

You can also narrow a roll by tag — cuisine, meal, diet, or things like “Quick” and “Air fryer”.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. Browsing, searching, rolling, cook mode, and your pantry and allergy settings all work without one. Signed out, your pantry and allergies are kept on your phone and sent along with each roll so the results fit.

An account is needed to post recipes, rate, save favorites, report or block, and to keep your pantry and allergies with your account instead of on one phone. What you set up while signed out isn't copied into your account when you sign in.

What's the difference between an allergy and a dislike?

Allergies always apply: recipes that need that ingredient are never rolled. Dislikes are softer — the roll filters have an “Include disliked ingredients” switch for when you're open to it.

You can exclude a single ingredient or a whole allergen group (peanut, tree nut, dairy, egg, gluten, soy, fish, shellfish, sesame). Excluding a general ingredient, like onion, covers its varieties, like red onion.

Why is a recipe with my allergen still showing?

If the allergen is only in an optional ingredient — a garnish or a topping — the recipe stays visible with a badge saying so, and you can leave that ingredient out. If it's in a required ingredient, the recipe is hidden from you. Hidden recipes are counted rather than silently dropped, and when browsing, “show flagged” reveals them.

Can I rely on the allergy filter?

No — treat it as a convenience, not a guarantee. Allergen information is derived from recipes' ingredient lists, many of them submitted by the community. Recipes can be mislabeled, incomplete, or change, and packaged ingredients vary by brand and region. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, always read the actual ingredient list of everything you cook with. The full disclaimer is in the app under Profile › Settings › Allergy Disclaimer.

How does cook mode work?

Tap Start Cooking on any recipe. Cook mode is one scrolling page: ingredients at the top, then every step with a checkbox, and the next step highlighted. Steps with a timer have a button to start it; several can run at once, and they keep counting if you leave the app. The first time you start one, the app asks whether it may notify you when a timer finishes — decline and the timers still run inside the app.

The screen stays awake while cook mode is open. If the app is closed mid-recipe, it reopens where you left off, checked steps and running timers included.

Can I change the servings or units?

Yes. On any recipe, change the servings and every quantity scales with it. The Metric / Imperial switch converts the measurements. Cook mode uses whatever you chose.

Does it work offline?

Partly. Recipes you've opened recently are kept on your phone, as are saved recipes once you've opened them, and cook mode works from that copy. Rolling, browsing and searching need a connection.

How do I post a recipe?

Go to Profile › My Recipes and tap New Recipe. Add ingredients by picking them from the app's ingredient list, then quantities, steps (with optional timers), tags and photos. Save it as a draft or publish it. Published recipes are public; drafts are visible only to you.

If an ingredient isn't in the list, request it from the ingredient picker. A person reviews each request; until it's approved, a recipe that uses it can be saved as a draft but not published. Your requests are listed under Profile › My Ingredient Requests.

To add your own version of someone else's dish, open it and choose “Add your variation”.

My photo hasn't appeared yet.

Photos are reviewed by a person before they appear to others, so a new photo can take a while to show up. Location data and other metadata are removed from every photo before it's stored.

Is there a limit on posting?

There are daily limits on new recipes (lower during an account's first week), photo uploads and reports. They exist to keep spam out, and most people never reach them.

How do ratings work?

Rate any recipe you didn't write from one to five stars; tap your rating again to remove it. Only the average and the number of ratings are shown — not who gave them. “Top rated” uses a weighted score, so a recipe with one five-star rating doesn't outrank one with hundreds of good ones.

How do I report something or block someone?

To report a recipe or its photo, open the recipe and tap the ••• menu. To report a profile or block a person, open their profile from the recipe's author line and use the ••• menu there. Blocking hides everything they've posted from you — in rolls, browsing, search, and your saved list. Unblock from Profile › Settings › Blocked Users.

Can I change my handle?

Yes, from your profile. Your display name and bio can change any time; your handle can change once every 30 days.

I forgot my password.

There's no self-service password reset yet. Email us from the address you signed up with and we'll help you get back in.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Profile › Settings › Delete Account. Your profile, email and password, pantry, allergies and dislikes, saved list, history and every photo you uploaded are deleted, and you are signed out everywhere. Recipes you published stay up, credited to “[deleted]”, so delete any you don't want to leave behind first. Your ratings stay only as part of each recipe's anonymous totals. Details are in the privacy policy.
